Willow

Willow gives new life to a window from the artist’s childhood home, built in 1937 on Willowdale Street. As a child, he helped maintain the wooden windows, stripping and repainting them during the summer. Now destined to disappear as part of the home’s renovation, the window was dismantled and restored to reveal its original red colour and the patina of time. It is preserved and reassembled in a minimal composition that highlights the quality of the period’s handcrafted details while preserving the memory of this architectural element.
Paired with Oguni Fudagami Japanese paper made from mulberry fibres, the reclaimed wood continues its life cycle as an object of light, like an eternal sunrise or sunset seen through a window.

Nicolas Lapierre is an architect and founding partner of atelier l’abri, a Montreal-based architecture studio recognized for its responsible approach. His practice focuses on the environmental and social impact of architecture and design, which he approaches through a fundamental balance between aesthetic quality, durability, and functionality.
