Soft Host Sconce

Part of the Soft Host collection, these lamps form through the accumulation of natural liquid latex, poured, stretched, and settled over a spiked structural frame. Derived from the tree, latex functions as secretion, protection, and wound. Pigmented with natural elements, the surface holds traces of the root from which it emerges.

A foreign light and imposed structure occupy the interior, turning the object into a soft host for an external presence. The membrane filters and diffuses this intrusion, allowing it to glow through rather than dominate. Suspended between organism and object, the work stages a quiet conflict between what is grown, what is imposed, and what resists containment.

Bio
Antoine Jeraj is an industrial designer based in Montréal, whose practice explores the relationship between functional objects, furniture, and lighting. His approach highlights materiality, fabrication, and technical detail, with particular attention given to handmade pieces and the direct connection between design and craft. 

Igor Zigor (b. 1994) is a self-taught craftsman and artist currently living and working mainly in Montréal. Exploring diverse creative approaches, his practice focuses on sculptural works, frames, experimental graphic studies, and, more recently, furniture design. Using ancestral techniques and meticulous craftsmanship, he transforms wood, ceramic, metal and latex, often pushing materials beyond their traditional roles. In Quebec, he sources materials from his family lands, deepening his connection to heritage and nature while embracing an ethical, hands-on approach that challenges modern production and consumption dynamics.
