Montjuic

I once visited Josep Lluís Sert’s architecture on Montjuïc hill in Barcelona. I was about twenty-three, fascinated by recognizing the geometric gesture of modernism, recurring throughout the Mediterranean basin.

In Montreal, I bought a notebook where I sketched that form. It evokes concrete, the lines left by timber formwork, an ethereal architecture holding light, a volume outlined by the folds of fabric.

Montjuic.
