Contemporary handmade lighting from Montreal Skip to content
A film by Thomas Tessier

Behind every light fixture, there is a workshop. Hands. An intention that comes before the form. For 15 years, Lambert & Fils has been making light in Montreal — not on an assembly line, not out of habit, but with the conviction that what is made with care always ends up showing. This film steps into that space. The workshop, the people, the gestures, the fixtures slowly coming to life. A trace of what it actually takes to make light.

Captured on 16mm, Kodak Vision 3 500T.

Narration — Samuel Lambert

Samuel Lambert

Founded in Montreal in 2010, Lambert & Fils began with a simple gesture : opening a small design atelier. Fifteen years later, the studio has grown into a living hub of collaborative creation, still guided by its founder, Samuel Lambert. His perspective, though, hasn't changed. A quiet humility, a fascination with materials, a deep commitment to the handmade : these convictions run through every project and continue to define the soul of the studio.

Hand-crafting

Working by hand is what makes the unexpected possible. The studio prototypes in-house, develops its own manufacturing approaches, and has created its own sustainable LED technology to preserve the intimacy of warm incandescent light. The Montreal atelier remains, always, a space of experimentation.

About us

The poetry of materials.
Encounters of technology and design.

Founded in 2010, Lambert & Fils is a contemporary lighting studio that creates original collections and collaborates with emerging designers around the world. Preserving the bond between design and making, all lighting is handmade in the Lambert & Fils atelier in the heart of Montreal.

Through its exploration of new design technologies, Lambert & Fils investigates the many shapes of light—meditating on voids, volumes, and the importance of matière première—materials as a point of origin.

The studio has created installations around the world, taking over display windows for Paris Design Week, hosting multiple editions of a pop-up café for Milan’s Fuorisalone, devising a grand floral installation for Stockholm Design Week and series of events in their New York Tribeca showroom.

Bespoke projects

Bespoke work is where Lambert & Fils began. Long before the first collection took shape, the studio was already solving briefs that had no ready answer, building the expertise, the team, and the creative instincts that still define this work today.

A Space for Collaboration

Some of the most meaningful conversations the studio has are with the architects and designers who bring its lighting into their spaces. The work of Lambert & Fils has long found its way into spaces shaped by those who understand that light is never incidental. For the professionals behind these spaces, the studio offers a dedicated program.
