Set to be presented during Format MTL, from September 10 to 12, APPLIQUE is a collective exhibit bringing together 22 creative minds from varied disciplines: design, architecture, visual arts and craft professions.

Every participant has been invited to create a unique light fixture from a common base. Hoping to spark the freshest propositions, Lambert & Fils has willingly left the project specifications very open, only resting on two essential constraints: everyone must use the same light source, and create a wall sconce.

« We want to conjure up a cabinet of curiosities only filled with lights, all stemming from diverse practices and sensibilities », says Samuel Lambert.

The Montreal-based studio wanted to extend an invitation to local creatives as well as artists from the rest of Quebec, all over Canada and Europe, namely France and Italy. Anchored in the geographical and material reality of its creator, each piece becomes both a singular interpretation and a fragment of a collective meditation on the nature of light, what it reveals, what it conceals, what it generates between bodies and spaces. The result is not a collection of lights, but a cartography of perspectives, what one perceives, interprets, hides or amplifies when given the exact same core object as another person. The result can only be resolutely personal.

The exhibition runs September 10 to 12 at Lambert & Fils' galerie 6250, located at 6250 rue Hutchison.

Opening night is September 9, from 6pm.

The pieces will be available for purchase on the Lambert & Fils website as soon as the exhibit opens.
