A canopy consists of housing the electrical connections and driver which powers low voltage / extra low voltage luminaires. At times voluminous, these may quickly clutter the ceiling. In an effort to reduce this visual impact, the Recessed Canopy is a solution in which all of its components are set back in the plenum.

Unfortunately, not all types of construction can host a recessed canopy installation. Find below the full list of mandatory requirements that need to be met.

UL Certified regions (North America)

For UL certifications regions, we’ve narrowed it down to these two variations, covering as many ceiling constructions as possible.

Auxiliary Box variation

The driver rests above the connected light fixture it serves. Located near the electrical housing and concealed in an auxiliary box for safety purposes, it requires a minimum clearance for its insertion in the plenum.

Remote Driver variation

This variation allows for a greater distance between the fixture and the driver. The latter can then be placed in a remote space such as a mechanical room or in a closet. It is also ideal for exposed beam ceilings as well as for projects with restricted plenum space. A maximum distance range is determined by the combination of the wire gauge and model being installed (refer to recessed canopy product sheets for more precision).

– Non-insulated hollow ceiling
– Minimum ceiling plenum height 3.75 in
– Ceiling thickness between 0.3 in and 1.75 in
– Ceiling perforation diameter 4.125 in
– Minimum clearance for the auxiliary box 11 in x 4 in (Auxiliary box variation only)

CE Certified regions (including Europe)

Independent driver

This independent driver can rest in the plenum right above the luminaire or at a greater distance, placed in a remote space such as a mechanical room or in a closet.  A maximum distance range is determined by the combination of the gauge wire and model or collection being installed (refer to recessed canopy product sheets for more precision).

– Non-insulated hollow ceiling
– Minimum ceiling plenum height 9.5 cm / 3.75 in
– Ceiling thickness between 0.8 cm – 4.5 cm / 0.3 in – 1.75 in
– Ceiling perforation diameter 10.5cm / 4.15 in
– Minimum clearance for the driver 8 in x 3 in
